Norm and Ferg at Sloppy Joe’s in Key West during the 1952 holiday break.

Thank you to Norman Wohlken '54 for sending us the following story, which reiterates the power of brotherhood.

"As an only child born in the depths of the Great Depression, I never had to share anything with brothers or sisters. Prior to starting Penn, I attended Freshman Camp where I met Fergus Sloan. He also had no brothers or sisters, so we bonded as friends, and later as brothers when we joined Sigma Chi. Suddenly we had many new brothers and were able to share and learn from our new ‘families.’ Fergus and I were lifelong brothers, served as the best man at our weddings, and were business associates. He passed away on November 8, 2015 just before reaching his 83rd birthday on January 10, 2016. So, I thank Sigma Chi not only for giving me a brother, but many, many more brothers."

Watch for an interview with Norman in the upcoming Quaker Sig.
